Abstract
MSC (Mobile service Switching Center) Pool technology is said to reduce the mobility signaling in the Core Network (CN). The aim of this paper is to complete this qualitative analysis by proposing a methodology to evaluate quantitatively the impact on the network of a MSC Pool deployment regarding the mobility signaling aspect. The paper also provides an algorithm to design the pool-areas so as to minimize the number of the inter-MSC signaling procedures in case the trivial solution of only one pool-area covering the whole network area appears to be not possible because of pool size constraints. Finally, we explicitly illustrate this work with results obtained by running the developed tool on a large real-life instance.
