Abstract :
This paper presents a mechanical speed-sensorless maximum power tracking controller for a wind energy conversion system composed of a wind turbine, a squirrel-cage induction generator and a matrix converter. The system is first represented by a comprehensive dynamic model developed by authors. Then, an algorithm-based controller is designed to derive the maximum power that can be achieved at a given wind velocity. Finally, the power is used as the reference for the closed-loop control of the power injected into the grid. In order to track maximum power, the matrix converter adjusts the induction generatorpsilas terminal frequency, and thus the turbine shaftpsilas speed. The matrix converter also adjusts the reactive power transfer at the grid interface towards voltage regulation or power factor correction. The claims made on the advantages of the proposed scheme are supported by analysis and simulation results.
