  • Abstract
Many communication techniques for MANET are connection-oriented approach. A route from source to the destination node must be discovered before data transmission. The high mobility causes the topology of MANET to be unpredictable and a significant overhead on route recovery. A connection-oriented approach is thus unsuitable for data transmission under high mobility MANET. In this paper, a revolutionary connectionless approach is proposed by incorporating a wide-range network and MANET. It is called OHLAR (one-hop location-aided routing). Locations of mobile nodes are important information for data packet transmission. A WiMAX base station is assumed available for interchanging locations of mobile nodes. OHLAR is simple and efficient since data is forwarded to a mobile node closest to the destination for every hop. We use NS-2 to evaluate the performance of OHLAR under high mobility situation and high node density. Simulation results show that OHLAR can keep high delivery ratio, low end-to-end delay, and low control overhead under high mobility and node density.
