Abstract :
Integrating micro-electronics, sensing and sense making into things that we wear represents a new frontier for creative design and technology. The challenges combine technology, fashion, and creativity to create everyday objects that must be desirable for form and yet functional. This talk will look into several collaborations between fashion designers and engineers 2 which have resulted in products, and concept demonstrations ( MICA, the Bio sport headset, the basis peak watch) and two concept dresses (the Synapse and Spider dress). Based on these experiences the talk will outline the challenges facing researchers and industry. Implications to semiconductor packaging, power delivery/harvesting, systems design, and end-to-end systems challenges will be discussed.
