Abstract :
Optimal power flow with transient stability constraints (OTS) becomes an effective tool of many problems in power systems since it considers economy and dynamic stability of system operations simultaneously. This paper studies the OTS calculation. By using the functional transformation technology, the OTS is converted into a semi-infinite programming (SIP) problem first. Then an iterative method is presented for the reformulated SIP problem. The new iterative method uses an active set strategy to obtain its finite approximation, (called the subproblem of SIP). The subproblem is typical nonlinear programming problem and can be solved by ordinary methods. The characters of the method proposed in this paper include: the dimension of reformulated SIP problem is identical to ordinary OPF problems, thus it avoids the high dimension difficulty in OTS calculations; The active set strategy in the iterative algorithm which facilities the calculation of subproblem reduces the inequality constrained numbers; The algorithm has global convergence in the theory. Two practical OTS examples are presented. Both are shown that the new method in this paper is effective.
