Abstract
One of the main problems when H-bridge multilevel converter is used for compensating reactive power is the DC link regulation; this is because of different losses into each cell. In this paper a DC link regulation strategy is obtained through a power analysis. It is shown how the strategy can be applied as much an asymmetric as a symmetric multilevel converters-based STATCOM. Some of simulation and experimental results based on a two cell binary converter are presented in order to show the strategy performance.
