Abstract :
Rapid urbanization in China has led to profound transform of the spatial pattern in urban landscape, especially on rural-urban fringes. Well understanding about the change process of green space pattern on fringes is essential to optimize urban green space system, while the fractal metrics and analysis of green patches are the effectual measures to understand, assess and optimize green spaces. This paper presents fractal methods to analyze such changes quantitatively in green space patterns on fringes, through a case study of Guangzhou, China, during 1990-2008, using rectified remote sense images and FRAGSTATS. The results show that both the changes of DAP and DNS of the green patches in 2000-2008 is fluctuant and synchronized temporally. The former can indicate the complexity of green patches present staggered decrease or increase companied with the urban landscape changing situation; and the latter means the Number-size model can be used to verify this kind of changes as a kind of authentic and supplementary metrics.
