Abstract
Relations are given for the AC flashover voltage of iced insulators in terms of the amount of ice, the conductivity of water at 0°C, the ambient temperature, and the length of an iced insulator string. The reasons why the flashover voltage of iced insulators decreases are analyzed. It is pointed out that the amount of ice and the conductivity of water at 0°C can be used as parameters for characterizing the flashover voltage of iced insulators. In the test it was found that there was a slight difference between the shapes of naturally iced and artificially iced insulators. This may be the cause of the differences observed between flashover voltages of these two kinds of iced insulators
