Abstract
This work introduces the development of a framework that allows researchers and practitioners to customize design methodologies for their own specific product service system (PSS) design problems. PSS has been researched for more than a decade but despite its economical and ecological benefits to customers, providers, the environment and the society, the adoption of PSS in industry is limited for its potential. One of the main reasons is that designing PSS is a difficult task because when designing PSS, designers have to deal with products, services, stakeholders, outsiders, etc. simultaneously. Many researchers worked on proposing new methodologies for designing PSS but the results were not sufficiently effective. In this work, the authors propose a new approach of customizing new design methodologies for PSS through the use of a framework which consists of the generation and selection processes of possible methodologies. We also include an illustrating example to demonstrate the use of this framework in actual cases.
