Abstract :
A new small three phase motor-driven reciprocating compressor was designed, constructed and performance evaluated on the basis of Cross-Field theory. The compressor was developed specifically to replace the conventional single phase type of a small air-conditioner system for higher efficiency of energy saving. The paper first outlines the wire winding method on the same frame as single phase motor due to the small space constraint, then the SPWM (Sinusoidal Pulse Width Modulation) inverter was applied to control the speed for optimal performance. The experimental results concluded that the new structure is better than that conventional thermostat control, giving about 28 percent of energy saving and ease of temperature control
