Abstract
Distributed reactive power supply is necessary in distribution networks for an optimized network operation. This paper begins with a presentation of the reactive power supply capabilities of generators connected to the distribution network (distributed generators). The second step proposes an approach of determining energy losses resulting from reactive power supply by distributed generators. The costs for compensating these losses represent the operational costs of reactive power supply. These costs should be taken into account in economically optimized network operation. Finally, a decentralized approach for considering these costs in voltage control is described.
