Abstract
One of the drawbacks of current on-board radar systems reported by aircraft pilots during the flight is the lack of an adequate resolution which permits to determine the separation between atmospheric formations. Moreover, they do not know the level of hazard related to these formations, being not able to understand with a good level of confidence if the aircraft is encountering hail shaft or rain, for instance. In this paper we focus on the application of compressed waveforms to an advanced avionic polarimetric radar simulator in order to show the benefits of both features in terms of better resolution and better classification of the weather phenomena.
