Abstract
The Hengill area in SW-Iceland is one of the most extensive geothermal areas in Iceland. Orkuveita Reykjavikur operates two power plants on the Hengill area. The company is working on a environmental impact assessment for two new power plant in the area. Power plants on the Hengill area will produce at least 600 MWel and 433 MWth by the end of 2011. The company is also working on research projects connected with itpsilas power plant project; the Carb-Fix project and IDDP project. This paper describes the Hengill area, Orkuveita Reykjavikurpsilas power plants and research projects in the Hengill area.
