Expert control theory : A key for solving production planning and control problems in flexible manufacturing

Practical experience of production planning and control problems calls for a multi-decisionmaker control structure, to efficiently drive each work section of the manufacturing system. Present paper suggests to design a hierarchical control structure by integrating mathematical tools derived from Control Theory by use of relational tools derived from Artificial Intelligence. Conditions to allow an effective implementation of the Expert Control System resulting by said matching will be stated.
