Abstract :
This paper first relates the experience gained with the state estimation function at Hydro-Quebec, experience that started with an in house development in the early 70psilas and was pursued with the acquisition of two commercial products, the latest one commissioned in early 2007. Subjects such as model building and conversion, system integration and commissioning, are addressed here. Next, the paper describes the Hydro-Quebecpsilas state estimation model and presents some of the practical problems encountered with the function. Finally, the authors conclude on the more important role that the state estimation function will have to play at Hydro-Quebec in the future. Topology errors, model inaccuracies, measurement system, solution quality and new advanced optimization functions are among the issues discussed.
