Abstract
The new advanced mobile communication systems are of increasing complexity. These third generation networks (Universal Mobile Telecommunication System (UMTS) according to ETSI or the Future Public Land Mobile Telecommunication System (FPLMTS) according to ITU) present new and stricter requirements for the handover. This article describes the forward handover protocol in its execution phase along with the integration of the required security services (authentication, confidentiality, integrity) and the key management. Analysis of performances depending on different handover cases are presented along with conclusions
