Abstract
The current drive for a 2-level maintenance approach creates the requirement at the depots of not only testing and repairing Shop Replaceable Units or Assemblies (SRUs or SRAs), but also to test and repair Line Replaceable Units or Weapon Replaceable Units (LRUs or WRAs). The current Automatic Test Equipment (ATE) systems at the depots are older technology which are, or are becoming, obsolete and are not user-friendly. These ATE systems were mostly developed to support only SRU or SRA testing and, therefore, lack the suite of stimulus and measurement capabilities to support LRU or WRA testing. The testing of LRUs or WRAs in these testers require the use of interface test adapters with active circuitry. This is not a desirable solution. AlliedSignal recognizing the need for an ATE system capable of supporting the 2-Level maintenance approach, and the desire to provide our customers with a state-of-the-art test system, developed the Universal Avionics Tester (UAT). The goal of the UAT was to provide an ATE system that can grow and adapt to ever changing needs. The UAT architecture is easily adaptable and reconfigurable to support additional or future testing requirements. The UAT has a powerful Graphical User Interface (GUI) that provides: (a) highly user-friendly interfaces; (b) real time control of instruments; (c) fully integrated TPS development tools; and (d) minimizes training requirements
