Abstract
Consideration must also be given to the fact that in building in increased safety, the functionality of the electrical system may be impaired thus preventing the user from enjoying its full potential. Young people, when first embarking on their careers in the electrical contracting sector of the construction industry, are made fully aware of the need to provide a safe electrical installation both during their on and off the job training. They are also provided with training that equips them with an understanding of how each installation is unique, and the importance of considering the end users´ needs when designing and installing an electrical system. The author discusses what the electrical contractor can provide, installation work, maintenance of fixed installations, equipment and lessons to be learned
