Abstract :
The authors describe a method for the identification of the aging of singular bar insulation by using two identical electromagnetic probes connected with a partial-discharge indicator through a high-frequency transformer and set simultaneously at two ends of each generator stator slot. According to the difference principle, the partial discharge of each top and bottom bar or slot discharges can be detected and located exactly. Compared with the traditional method suggested by T.W. Dakin (1969), the advantage of this method is the avoidance of adjacent slot interference. In general, by measuring partial discharge at the stator winding line terminals, the maximum value of discharge quantity can be detected but not the aging of each singular bar. This method has been successfully applied to three turbogenerators and one hydrogenerator in recent years
