Abstract
If distributed generation is to become a significant source of energy in the future, it will have to work in conjunction with the transformers supplying the distribution network to provide adequate voltage quality for customers. Current practice is to prohibit distributed generation from actively participating in voltage control. However, this approach does not take full advantage of the capabilities of embedded synchronous generation to contribute to voltage control if an appropriate controller were available. The work reported in this paper shows that such a controller can be developed and used to good advantage in controlling the voltage at its own terminals.
