Abstract
Several high-end applications today require the use of high-capacity optical networking for large data transfers. Several initiatives are underway to making dynamic optical circuits a reality in existing and future heterogeneous environments. Researchers and networking research community have recently adopted advanced hardware and software technologies to support such services. A similar service paradigm-shift is currently considered by a number of commercial applications. For example, dynamic optical services arc required for ultra high performance media applications (digital cinema and broadcasting). The panel will discuss the evolving needs for dynamic optical circuits for applications. Specific issues for discussion will be the deployment of very high speed optical infrastructure (beyond 100 Gbps), migrating network functionality to L1/L2 such as dynamic multicast, control and service technologies to enable such solutions.
