Abstract
Zhou´s and DiCesare´s A-path modeling with Petri nets is a well structured concept for modeling manufacturing systems. But the number of places, transitions and arcs increases very fast for large manufacturing systems with several processes. For this purpose, some more compact modeling concepts are presented here. The Petri net is reduced by merging places and transitions which achieve equal functions. The evolutionary development of modeling concepts ends up with a separation of the routing and machining operations. Timed Petri nets are supported as well.
