Abstract :
This paper presents an approach to solve distribution system power flows in traditional load flow framework and also proposes a distribution system optimal power flow model that can address several new issues arising from introduction of retail competition and penetration of distributed generation (DG). Further, a novel set of indices are developed to examine the impact of DG locations within the distribution area. These indices represent the contribution of a DG to the system in terms of feeder unload and loss reduction. A goodness factor is developed that assigns a ldquodollar valuerdquo to the contribution of each DG location in the system, and that can help the disco planner and operator in its decision making. The applicability of this approach was explained with a simple distribution system as a case study.
