Abstract
This paper describes the design philosophy, commissioning and validation of a 4 Q, 3.3 kV, 1 MVA power converter intended for a power electronics test laboratory. The focus lies on the sophisticated control algorithms responsible for creating a long lasting programmed "bad grid" (DC and AC), as well as the modelling effort required to identify the safe operating area within the vast possibilities. The paper will highlight the technological advancement achieved, in hardware and control software and the experience gained during commissioning.
