Abstract
Conventionally, route control system is managed for alleviating heavy traffic congestions. However, in urban areas, only network control system can adapt to change of traffic situation. Control of traffic signal in real time needs a measurement of travel time and a feedback of the travel time to the system. Therefore, the network control system needs a directional travel time between adjacent intersections. We proved that travel time between two points can be measured with movies using plurality of features not only in daytime but also in nighttime. Therefore, we believe that our method can measure directional travel time using existing surveillance camera as vision sensor and represent a step on the way from route control to network control.
