Abstract :
Curves of thermally stimulated current (TSC) from XLPE (cross-linked polyethylene) specimens were obtained and in turn used to determine the trap depths of the specimens with charge transfer complexes (CTC), antistatic agents, and polypropylene and polystyrene additives. The relation between space charge in dielectrics and charge-injection time was established. By studying tree growth in various specimens in relation to space charge, it is found that when CTC, antistatic agents, and MgPc are doped in PE, the rate of tree growth is slowed; there exists a special relation between the length of electrical trees under AC after DC prestress and the value of DC prestress
