Abstract :
A number of demonstrations showed connectivity to the four backbone sites and two additional application sites, SRI and LBNL. Numerous technological advances have occurred recently that enable the realization of transparent optical networks. Currently we are evaluating wavelength flattened optical amplifiers developed for WDM applications in the network. Multi-wavelength signals carrying digital and analog signals simultaneously across optical amplifier chains have been characterized. The signals are routed within the network using optical switches.
