Abstract
With funding from NSF, faculty from the Dwight Look College of Engineering at Texas A&M University have developed an outreach program aimed at providing secondary math and science teachers with research experiences with faculty researchers. The overall mission of the project is to excite, empower, and educate teachers about engineering so they in turn will excite, empower, and educate students they come in contact with each day. E3 recruits teachers from the Houston Independent School district and several ISDs in South Texas, targeting schools with a large number of minority and economically disadvantaged students. Over the past five years, the program has hosted over 70 teachers. These teachers come from schools with at least an 80% ethnic minority student population.
