Abstract
According to the competency dictionary of Spencer, this research explores the component of senior researchers´ competency in universities, and designs a scale of competency through the literature review, net information analysis, as well as the interviews of experts. To elaborate a model for senior researchers´ competency, a total of 348 professors from 17 universities answered the questionnaire. The results of analysis reveal that the competency model of senior researchers in university is composed of three dimensions, such as research quality, research capability and management skills, which also include some different factors. The research qualities consist of achievement-oriented, confidence, cooperation and anti-pressure. The research capabilities include information mining, innovation abilities, and learning.
