Abstract :
Preliminary observations concerning a novel approach proposed by the authors for carrying out a screening of outdoor insulating materials by low-cost medium-term experiments are presented. The purpose of this approach is to carry out selection among materials of the same family using a reference material (belonging to that family) whose behavior has already been evaluated by means of tests on full-size insulators. A fog-chamber test and three different inclined-plane test procedures were used to perform a comparison among different epoxy systems and silicon rubber systems
