Abstract :
The Internet Protocol television (IPTV), new revenue-generating services, brings the end user a much more entertainment experience at an affordable cost. The IPTV brings not only the traditional voice and data services but also the new features such as video on demand (VoD), broadcast TV, customized ad insertion, and so on. However, the realization of the IPTV business requires much wider bandwidth, lower delay, smaller packet loss rate than the cable network. Moreover, the IPTV provides the best-effort, the Quality of Service (QoS) can not be guaranteed. Therefore, it is necessary to explore how the technologies adopted in the IPTV affect the performance of the IPTV. In this paper, an end-to-end video transmission system framework for the IPTV is proposed. We focus on the entire technical framework and describe the various technologies in order to pave a way for the optimal design of the IPTV.
