Abstract
The authors present the application of an intelligent control procedure to a machine vision system. The vision system is used for defect and out-of-tolerance inspection of parts where there are variations in the assembly fabrication. The variations are due to nonlinearity in the system behavior or noise influencing the system under control. These variations cause inaccuracy in assembly of parts and poor-quality products. The system presented illustrates the application of an intelligent controller procedure to a vision system. An integrated vision control-based system is developed that measures the variations in the system under control and produces appropriate corrective control signals to overcome the inaccuracies observed in the fabrication process. This is an adaptive control procedure, and, if the output behavior changes, the corrective signals also change. The real-time implementation of the system increases efficiency and uptime in the system
