Abstract :
A very general analytical model of the cavity-backed slot is used to determine the scattering characteristics of the antenna. By analyzing the scattering response of the antenna, the resonant frequencies of both the dynamic and the magnetostatic modes of the antenna are obtained. The scattered fields generated by the volume-wave magnetostatic modes in the cavity are subject to large magnetic losses incurred due to the resonance linewidth of the ferrite. These losses may be overcome in part by using ferrite materials with very narrow 3-dB linewidths. The degradation of the scattered fields for cavities completely filled with ferrite material is shown. The drastic reduction in the magnitude of the scattered fields formed by the dynamic modes of the cavity is primarily due to the mismatch imposed by the high dielectric constant at the dielectric-air interface.<>
