Abstract
In this paper we consider the use induced birefringence within a cadmium-zinc-telluride crystal as a method of detecting high energy photons by means of the perturbations of the electric field known as the Pockels effect. Such a detector could potentially offer several advantages mainly that the electronics can be placed distant from the detecting crystal itself, allowing them to be moved out of the radiation field increasing the system tolerance to high flux environments.
