Abstract :
This paper describes a conceptual design of a distributed generator controller that is capable of undertaking digital relay tasks. This capability makes the controller compliant to IEEE 1547 Standard for Interconnecting Distributed Resources with Electric Power Systems. The paper also presents the controllerpsilas behaviors in over-/under-voltage tests to show its conformance with the IEEE 1547. The digital relay functions are fulfilled by an integrated module called the Utility Interface Controller. The testing of the over-/under-voltage functions is performed on a simulated utility and distributed generation system. The standard requires abnormal voltage conditions to be detected and the circuit breaker at the point of common coupling to be tripped in various predefined time intervals. Initial results are promising and the controller shows that it has the capability to be compliant with the IEEE 1547 standard under abnormal voltage conditions.
