Abstract
The authors describe how the modernisation of a distribution network by adding automation is a rapidly developing area and is witnessing increasingly widespread pilot schemes in the UK Regional Electricity Companies. They detail how it is likely that regulatory pressure will increase, possibly to the extent of including financial penalties for failure to meet the targets relating to quality of supply
