    Amateur Radio had Grown in the Decade Before WWII; 17000 in 1928 to 51000 in in 1939. The U.S. Army Made Effective Use of this Talent at the Beginning of the WAR. Amateur Radio Operation was Suspended During the Hostilities and Many Amateur Radio Operators were Used in the Signal Corps. Amateur Radio Equipment was Diverted to the War Effort. The “War Emergency Radio Service” was Formed.
