Abstract
A method to approach the capacity of Multiple Access Channel by means of power allocation was studied. By applying PAM modulation to each individual signal and superimposing the weighted signal together, we treated MAC channel as single user multiple level coding and modulation system. We found that the searched power profile was more powerful in terms of approaching MAC capacity than that obtained by equal power allocation and by Interior-Point Method (IPM), especially in the case of 4 users. The optimized power profile shows that at low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) region the performance gain is negligible, while in high SNR region, it is noted. The optimized power profile can be used to facilitate the performance of channel coding.
