Abstract
The general nonlinear inverse scattering problem for the one-dimensional stratified dielectric problem is considered. The authors consider a solution procedure which is statistical, in that random starting points are used, but which does not permit jumps out of local valleys. The approach taken is to explore a massively parallel iterative method for obtaining solutions to the one-dimensional stratified dielectric problem, where in the simplest case the system is assumed lossless. The approach taken is to validate the technique using simple structures and algorithms, to enable straightforward experimental verification. Implementation wit the MasPar parallel supercomputer is discussed, and some results are presented.<>
