Abstract :
A novel dielectric resonator antenna geometry enclosed by a rectangular cavity is proposed. It consists of a cylindrical ceramic material (εr=37), symmetrically placed inside an open rectangular metallic cavity. The antenna is excited by proximity coupling using, a coaxial feed that comes into one of the cavity´s sides and terminates some distance from the dielectric body. The low-Q (radiation) properties of this antenna are shown both experimentally and theoretically using the scattering parameters. Electric and magnetic field configurations and far field patterns of the low-Q modes up to 3 GHz are shown and the former are compared with the (E and H) field orientation of a fully shielded rectangular cavity.
