  • Abstract
The authors describe how a solid cylinder, which may be several wavelengths in diameter, can be designed to create no shadow to microwaves within a narrow frequency band. The idea is based on the concept of soft and hard surfaces. Using this approach, the microwave shadow (blockage) can be reduced to nearly nothing even for a thick solid strut. A strut that has vanishing microwave shadow for both the TE (transverse electric) and TM (transverse magnetic) cases has been designed and verified by computations and measurements.<>
