Abstract :
A new local ABC (absorbing boundary condition) is derived using modal expansion basis functions. These basis functions are the heart of the transfinite element method. They provide better results than the Bayliss-Turkel ABC when the boundary is close to the scatterer. Also, the final matrices that they generate are symmetric and the boundary conditions may be applied to both circular and noncircular boundaries. Numerical results are presented.<>
