Abstract :
The protective Current Transformer (CT) has an important role in reliable protection of power system. The objectives of CT designing are to increase its accuracy in high fault currents, minimize its dimension and also manufacturing cost. This paper presents a new approach based on Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) for optimal design of the protective current transformer. Two identical CTs, one without air gap and the other with air gap in the core, are designed using the proposed method and their performance is discussed. Results show the effectiveness of method in determining the design parameters of the current transformer.
