Abstract
A versatile diffraction synthesis method which combines the optimization technique and the physical optics analysis is employed to solve the problem of distortion compensation. Using this method, one may design various compensating feed systems such as array feeds and a shaped subreflector fed by a single feed in a unified manner. The effectiveness of this technique is demonstrated using an example problem involving a distorted paraboloidal reflector antenna.<>
