Abstract :
Two different approaches to conflict analysis are applied to the serious conflict arising over the illegal dumping of toxic waste in the former capital of Ivory Coast in August 2006, in order to compare their capabilities for gaining strategic insights into this dispute. More specifically, the Graph Model for Conflict Resolution and Drama Theory are employed to systematically study the toxic waste controversy. Subsequently, these two techniques are compared using this conflict with respect to their intrinsic and actual capabilities for modeling, better understanding and forecasting the equilibria or potential resolutions.
