Abstract :
Rational governance of conflicting goals, uncertainties and risks demands not only novel modeling methods but also appropriate modeling technology. The paper presents selected issues of model-based support for solving complex problems. The main part of the paper deals with novel modeling technology and integrated methods of comprehensive model analysis, which support decision-makers with diversified ways of analysis of the underlying decision problem; one of these methods is presented in more detail, namely an extension of the reference point optimization, which supports an effective analysis of trade-offs between conflicting goals. Also new approaches to coping with endogenous uncertainty and catastrophic risks are summarized.
