Abstract
The method of lines is used to calculate the complex resonant frequency of radiating microstrip patches. It is demonstrated how the radiation patterns can be obtained on the basis of the current distribution on the patch using the method of stationary phase. As an example, the radiation characteristics of a rectangular microstrip patch on an infinite dielectric layer are depicted. The far-field radiation characteristics have been obtained in the principal planes of the resonator as well as in the whole area.<>
