Abstract
The idea of separating the sensitive area and the metal electrodes leads to the construction of a new type of hydrophone. Using the piezoelectric foil PVDF (polyvinylidene fluoride) as a sensor material, reliable measurements of a shock pulse generator can be made. These measurements can be made over a large bandwidth without there being any significant decrease of sensitivity. The sensitivity is high enough that it is possible to reduce the sensitive area to as little as 1-mm diameter for more accurate measurements
