Abstract :
A history of the General Dynamics Space Systems Division 20 kHz breadboard, including its current configuration and its role in the SSF program, is presented. Highlights and results of a series of tests conducted on the breadboard are presented. The first test discussed is an acceptance test, which verified the operation of the delivered breadboard, and characterized the main components of the system. Next, an in-depth efficiency testing effort, which attempted to apportion all the power losses in the breadboard main inverter units, is also discussed. Distortion test data are presented, showing the distortion characteristics of a Mapham inverter. Current work on the breadboard is presented including main inverter unit paralleling tests. The results show that a 20 kHz power distribution system is feasible and can meet or exceed current requirements for the Space Station Freedom power system
