Abstract
Summary form only given. By “opaque”, we mean important and challenging research problems in transparent optical networks that need more clarity and our research attention. Examples of such problems include: mixed-line-rate (MLR) optical networks (due to the emergence of 100G and beyond transmission technologies); hybrid circuit/packet switching (including horizontal partitioning and vertical stacking); energy efficiency in telecom networks; etc. Several of these topics will be covered in this talk.
